wit stinkhout

I found a wit stinkhout (Celtis Africana) sapling at my parents place, I think it was early 2011. I planted it and left it. It very quickly turned into a little tree with a leathery smooth bark. During my tinkering phase (which Im proud to say has now passed) I air-layered a central main branch, I used some wire to manipulate the branches downward for a better presentation and I aggressively pruned it. Remarkably it survived my onslaught and turned into, I think, a presentable bonsai wannabe that I enjoyed showing people.
I have since, as stated in another blog, decided that less is more and plant vigour and health will do more for appearance than I can with wire and shears.
Here are some photos of the progress from sapling to tree.

Unfortunately I have had to sell most of my plants including this one as my wife and I are heading overseas and there's no one to take care of my collection. It was quit a sad day but hopefully I will get to see updates as it continues its new journey with another enthusiast...
