OPUS
Since starting with my container gardens, my interests have expanded: from just herb and ornamental container plants to bonsai, to miniature landscapes and then hanging planters, vertical gardens and lately hanging string gardens.
But this article is about Opus, a shop that helped to define my ideas about container and 'not so container' gardens.
I stayed in Cape Town (up till about 8 months ago) and we often went around exploring. Usually this involved a coffee fix in and around Woodstock or Observatory, sometimes the CBD or someplace close by Rondebosch. On one such occasion we found a coffee shop called Tribe coffee cafe and across from it an interesting design studio. It was called Opus Studio and appeared to have all sorts of terrariums and hanging flora. Beautiful and different.
I googled their shop and found that they specialized in hanging gardens (so called 'pot-less gardens') based on Kokedama. It was founded by Marissa Pretorius as a botanical flower shop in 2011. Have a look to see some of their diverse and awesome creations. Its no wonder that they have been featured in Elle Decor, House & Leisure, Garden & Home, VISI magazine, Marie Claire, Remodelista, Gardenista (proud follower and was so chuffed to see Opus here) and Martha Steward Weddings.
Here are some of the photos I took from the shop and a couple of photos of from their site.
These photos from the net.
Check out their instagram and facebook pages!
